Along the creative hub of Chapel Street in Melbourne, one franchisee wanted to make his KFC store stand out from other establishments in the area. Sitting opposite a café, this bespoke, hand-illustrated mural was inspired by the vibrant and multi-cultural people in the local area of Prahran, spanning the height and width of the building.

 The characters were inspired by the diversity of the locals.  Here you’ll find the graffiti artist, the pole dancer, the man in a turban, the lifeguard, the drag queen, the cyclist, and the lesbian couple all side-by-side.

 Likewise, you’ll find references to local sights including the Melbourne trams, the Jam Factory entertainment centre, and the Yarra River all in close proximity.

 We wanted to create a vibrant piece that would set KFC aside from rival establishments nearby, but also provide intrigue to those in the café opposite.

 We highlighted our brand using the characters themselves as well as the KFC palette.

 Instagrammers far and wide organically generated their own social content, including boutique fashion labels using it for shoots, tourists celebrating their time in Melbourne, photographers trying to nail that winning shot, local bars and restaurant

Instagrammers far and wide organically generated their own social content, including boutique fashion labels using it for shoots, tourists celebrating their time in Melbourne, photographers trying to nail that winning shot, local bars and restaurants ushering patrons to come and admire the scenery, and even Lexus using it as a backdrop to promote their luxury sports car.

It even popped-up as a feature on the Chapel Street Precinct Instagram page, and as part of Medium.com’s article Experience 5 of Melbourne’s Hidden Gems and Skip the Tourist Traps.’
